Vodafone, Optus pre-paid, no contracts, CDMA etc etc. with so many service providers to choose from not to mention price plans it is very easy for the average person to get confused and frustrated by all the advertising and hype thrown at him by the phone companies.

There are basically five main mobile service providers in Australia, Vodafone, Virgin, Optus, Orange and Telstra.The cheapest of which is Orange. But Orange uses a CDMA network which means that you could not bring your existing mobile phone over to use as most mobile phones that are used world wide uses SIM card technology and the GSM network.

Most international students prefer to use Optus pre-paid instead as Optus provides free calls of up to 20 minutes to another Optus user from 9 pm to midnight. No matter which operator that you choose to go with, be sure to look at all the price plans before making your decision.
