In Australia, when you fall sick, you can't
just go to see a medical specialist or go straight to the hospital
(unless in an emergency) you would need to visit a GP(General Practitioner)
first to get a referral. However, before you can see a GP, specialist
or dentist you would first need to need to make an appointment.
Most of the GP's would be able to fit you in
within a couple of days, however the waiting period could be up
to two or three weeks if you were going to see a specialist. You
would not be able to buy antibiotics and most medicines the counter,
as you would first need to get a prescription from a GP then get
the prescription filled by a pharmacist.
