On Campus  ::  Rentals  ::  Rental Tips

Most students at the university rent an apartment or house during their studies at the university. The advantages of renting a place are that you could have a choice of where you want to live, eg near the university or city or the beach etc, you would also have more privacy than if you were staying on campus, you wouldn't need to share the toilets and you could always invite friends over and have total freedom in the choice of food (after all you prepare your own food) and eating hours.

While the advantages may seem tempting there are also some disadvantages that you need consider, you would need to sign a lease agreement mostly for six months and you would need to pay a bond which most of the time works out to 4 weeks worth of rent for unfurnished apartments and six weeks for a fully furnished one. You would also need to budget for your phone, electricity and grocery bills. You would have to prepare your own meals, do your own laundry and grocery shopping.

The University has an accommodation office, which has a list of available properties and units for sharing and rental. You could also look out for advertisements on the notice boards scattered around the University on available properties.
